Cunningham Says One Thing And Does Another

Cunningham Has A Long Track Record Of Telling Lies, Breaking Promises, And Misleading Voters About His Liberal Priorities

Cal Cunningham has spent his entire campaign misleading North Carolinians and pretending he won’t be another sure vote for an extreme liberal agenda. Here’s a look back at the times he’s said one thing and done another over the course of this race:

  1. Cunningham says he doesn’t take any corporate money. However, Cunningham received a “mostly false” rating from WRAL-Politifact for his “no corporate money” pledge by utilizing loopholes that still allow him to benefit from corporate money.
  2. Cunningham lied about Senator Tillis’ position on state and local COVID-19 relief and was then called out with a “mostly false” rating from WRAL-Politifact.
  3. Cunningham lied about when he stopped working for WasteZero after he was caught hypocritically criticizing the Paycheck Protection Program while WasteZero benefited from it. Cunningham was later busted by the Raleigh News and Observer for being paid by the company even after they received their PPP loan.
  4. Cunningham campaigned for the state Senate promising not to raise taxes only to get elected and hike them by $1 billion during an economic recession.
  5. Cunningham has decried special interest tax breaks, but he abused a tax credit program to make $39,000 worth of lavish renovations to his house.
  6. In January, Cunningham agreed to debate Senator Tillis five times. In the general election, however, he only agreed to participate in three debates and declined an invitation to debate with WLOS-Asheville.
  7. Cunningham says he could work with President Trump on trade and immigration, yet he spent his entire primary calling the president’s trade policies reckless,” refusing to support USMCA and pushing to “enable” sanctuary cities.
  8. Cunningham pretended to support the lowering of college tuition in an op-ed he wrote in The Daily Tar Heel, but he voted to increase college tuition as student body president at UNC and as a state Senator.
  9. Cunningham falsely accused Senator Tillis of not advocating for more testing equipment in North Carolina. As the National Journal pointed out, Tillis pressed the administration for more testing equipment back in early March.
  10. Cunningham falsely claimed that the Green New Deal wasn’t a real proposal in order to avoid taking a position on it.

As Cunningham’s list of lies and broken promises continues to grow, it’s clear that voters can’t trust him to be anything but a rubber-stamp liberal who will raise taxes, put undue burdens on small businesses, and make North Carolinians less safe.
