Sanctuary Policies Result In Gruesome Violence, Do Cunningham And Smith Still Support Them?

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Charlotte Observer today published a report providing additional details about the gruesome violence that illegal immigrant Luis Analberto Pineda-Anchecta was able to inflict as a result of the sanctuary policies currently in place in Mecklenburg County. Anchecta was released from jail despite the objections of ICE, and is “accused of strangling his ex-girlfriend with a plastic rope” and trying to rape and murder her.

In light of yet another troubling account, Erica Smith and Cal Cunningham should explain why they still support the sanctuary policies that endanger North Carolinians and allow for such terrible violence to take place. 

While Smith voted against a state sanctuary cities ban and Cunningham endorsed sanctuary policies in an October interview, Senator Tillis is leading the charge in the U.S. Senate to hold dangerous jurisdictions like Mecklenburg accountable so that they stop putting North Carolinians at risk.
